How we work
Steve's follows a comprehensive "holistic" approach, i.e., understanding the whole person and how positive change can also "generalise" into other areas of life. Steve will help you to establish core issues, such as causes, contexts, mechanisms, explanations, and consequences, to create a "working model".
A "working model" can help in several key areas: firstly, it provides structure so that you can systematically work through the areas that you and Steve have identified together. Secondly, a working model provides a testing ground to explore why certain strategies work, how they work, what aspects need refining or changing.
When it comes to planning your intervention, Steve will discuss with you how the strategy can be structured and supported. For example, this may involve a detailed education phase to understand, practice and apply specific strategies, to looking at suitable approaches to measuring your progress while setting contingency plans for any unexpected or anticipated problems.
In "training to generalise", Steve will show you how you replicate the positive changes in other situations. For example, if you are working on improving concentration in sport, Steve will encourage you to practice these skills in different settings, such as the classroom, home, or work settings.
Consultation process
One-to-one consultations offer the perfect platform to explore areas that matter to you and can take place at a mutually convenient place (geography dependant). Sessions are entirely tailored-made according to your developmental needs, specific learning style, and consultation format: i.e., face-to-face, video-call, or telephone format, or a combination of all three.
When it comes to choosing a sport psychology/personal development package, Steve offers a completely personalised and flexible approach. After your initial (FREE) consultation, you may choose to pre-book sessions: for example, 6 x 1hr programme (save 10%); or if you prefer, there is also the option to go pay-as-you-go. Steve will comprehensively explore this with you to find the most suitable approach for your needs.

Youth sport
Steve has a wealth of experience working with youth athletes across a range of different sports, from grassroots, academy/scholarship, to full-time professional athletes. The benefit of learning psychological skills at a younger age is that it helps athletes to cope with the pressures of sport by developing strategies to maintain focus, confidence, and motivation, and effective goal setting.
Although younger athletes learn similarly to adults, there are important differences to take into consideration: such as attention span, learning style, and ability to process complex information. With this in mind, Steve adopts an approach to ensure that these distinctions are central to the learning process to encourage deeper understanding and generalisability.
Steve also shows how learning these skills can become essential transferable skills, which can generalise into other areas of life, such as managing the dual demands of school/college and exam pressure, to promote greater resilience and mental toughness to cope with difficult/challenging life events.
